Final season in Orlando

Hardaway returned from a knee injury that had limited him to 19 games the previous season and played all 50 games in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign, averaging 15.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He led the Magic to a 33-17 record and the third seed in the East.

Orlando fell to Allen Iverson and the 76ers in the first round, and it proved to be Hardaway's final season with the Magic. He exercised his opt-out clause that summer and signed with Phoenix.

Taking the hobby to the 'net

As the information superhighway exploded in popularity, Fleer/Skybox released this iconic insert.

A nod to this new Internet thing, featuring 15 scoring legends known for screaming their way taking the ball to the net. Kind of like our 56K modems at the time screaming each time we hit the ‘net.

Fleer completely embraced the concept, giving each player a faux email address, using photography of most players aggressively taking it to the net and even including a fan mail message on the back of each card.

These cards are a true late 90’s internet time capsule that’ll bring back memories for anyone who was a basketball fan during the era of dial-up modems, chat rooms and the early days of the World Wide Web.
