Mercer built on a strong rookie campaign in his second season with Boston, averaging 17.0 points and 1.6 steals over 41 games in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 schedule. He started 40 of those games as part of a youthful Celtics backcourt alongside Antoine Walker and rookie Paul Pierce.

Boston went 19-31 but reached the playoffs. Mercer was traded to Denver in the offseason as the Celtics reshaped their roster.

As the information superhighway exploded in popularity, Fleer/Skybox released this iconic insert.

A nod to this new Internet thing, featuring 15 scoring legends known for screaming their way taking the ball to the net. Kind of like our 56K modems at the time screaming each time we hit the ‘net.

Fleer completely embraced the concept, giving each player a faux email address, using photography of most players aggressively taking it to the net and even including a fan mail message on the back of each card.

These cards are a true late 90’s internet time capsule that’ll bring back memories for anyone who was a basketball fan during the era of dial-up modems, chat rooms and the early days of the World Wide Web.
