Abdur-Rahim was the undisputed leader of the Vancouver Grizzlies in their third NBA season, averaging 23.0 points and 7.5 rebounds across all 50 lockout-shortened games. That scoring average ranked fourth in the league, cementing his status as one of the NBA's rising stars.

Despite his production, Vancouver struggled to a 8-42 record as the expansion franchise continued to search for supporting pieces around their third overall pick from 1996.

Taking the hobby to the 'net

As the information superhighway exploded in popularity, Fleer/Skybox released this iconic insert.

A nod to this new Internet thing, featuring 15 scoring legends known for screaming their way taking the ball to the net. Kind of like our 56K modems at the time screaming each time we hit the ‘net.

Fleer completely embraced the concept, giving each player a faux email address, using photography of most players aggressively taking it to the net and even including a fan mail message on the back of each card.

These cards are a true late 90’s internet time capsule that’ll bring back memories for anyone who was a basketball fan during the era of dial-up modems, chat rooms and the early days of the World Wide Web.
