Cleveland's new star

Kemp was in his second season with Cleveland after a blockbuster 1997 trade from Seattle, and the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign brought a career-high 20.5 points per game to go with 9.2 rebounds. The Reign Man reported to training camp well above his playing weight, having not expected the season to resume after the lockout.

Cleveland went 22-28. It was a far cry from his Seattle peak, but Kemp remained one of the league's most recognisable power forwards.

Taking the hobby to the 'net

As the information superhighway exploded in popularity, Fleer/Skybox released this iconic insert.

A nod to this new Internet thing, featuring 15 scoring legends known for screaming their way taking the ball to the net. Kind of like our 56K modems at the time screaming each time we hit the ‘net.

Fleer completely embraced the concept, giving each player a faux email address, using photography of most players aggressively taking it to the net and even including a fan mail message on the back of each card.

These cards are a true late 90’s internet time capsule that’ll bring back memories for anyone who was a basketball fan during the era of dial-up modems, chat rooms and the early days of the World Wide Web.
