First NBA championship

In his second season, Duncan led the Spurs to their first NBA title in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign. He averaged 21.7 points and 11.4 rebounds during the regular season, earning All-NBA and All-Defensive First Team selections.

San Antonio went 37-13 and swept the Knicks 4-1 in the Finals, with Duncan named Finals MVP after posting 27.4 points and 14.0 rebounds per game in the series. Earlier in the playoffs, the Spurs had ended the Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant Lakers in the conference semis.

Taking the hobby to the 'net

As the information superhighway exploded in popularity, Fleer/Skybox released this iconic insert.

A nod to this new Internet thing, featuring 15 scoring legends known for screaming their way taking the ball to the net. Kind of like our 56K modems at the time screaming each time we hit the ‘net.

Fleer completely embraced the concept, giving each player a faux email address, using photography of most players aggressively taking it to the net and even including a fan mail message on the back of each card.

These cards are a true late 90’s internet time capsule that’ll bring back memories for anyone who was a basketball fan during the era of dial-up modems, chat rooms and the early days of the World Wide Web.
